After searching a lot for the best PA for my needs,
I went with the JBL Eon One.
I did add a Yamaha mixer for more control.
I am very happy with the combination.

The tower system reaches the entire room without having to be turned up
so high that the people in the front of the room get blasted with sound.

I use this for solo and duet shows.
However with the mixer added, I have 5 XLR channels if needed.

Edit: Posted this response in the wrong thread (thanks for mentioning the JBL Eon One downthread!).

My JBL is a direct competitor to the Bose and I got mine at about 1/2 the price of a Bose.
Give JBL a look.

I am over the moon happy with both my Elite Acoustics D6-8 for small rooms and my Schertler Roy which I use in larger spaces where I used to use my Bose L1 mkii.

What really surprised me is how good the dispersion is on my Schertler Roy (mounted on a short speaker stand). I wasn't expecting it to be that good. It turns out that the speaker MTM speaker layout is actually really good at blanketing a room with lots of horizontal but very little vertical spread.

As compared to the L1 system, the sound is remarkably similar. The two 8 inch speakers in the Roy combine to give a remarkable amount of low end. I do a lot of guitar bass lines and drop tunings, so I really like a lot of bass. I don't think it would make a DJ as happy as the Bose B1, but it is certainly more than enough bass for drop tunings or an acoustic bass.

I remember doing a show in a triple-wide hotel ballroom with the Bose L1. That would be a bit much for the Roy, but that is so rare for me. The Roy will certainly handle a large room or outdoor winery gig with ease.

...and it's just one box!

I'm wih L20A. MyJBL Eon One ($500 gently used), enhanced by a SoundCraft Notepad 12FX mixer, sounds better than the Bose systems I'm hearing around town for about half the cost. I've played rooms of varying size, as well as a number of outdoor gigs, and never had trouble getting my sound out there, with the added bonus of being able to hear myself very well. Can't beat it.

I've had my Eon One for more than three years now. It really does sound great and I use it for every gig I can, which is most of them.

Really enjoyed my Eon One, but I'm even happier yet with the HK Nano 608i. Having 5 full channels and 4 XLR inputs, not to mention the parametric eq allows for using it with a duo or three piece acoustic act even, without need for an external mixer.
