Believe it or not, Fender used to attach a strap button to the headstocks on their precision basses.

Thanks for all the replies.

That Gibson headstock strap loop shown in Howard Emerson's post is interesting. The loop design seems more appealing than the button style in my original post...still not my cup of tea, though.

On my regular guitars, I prefer a strap button on the neck heel. However, on my acoustic bass, it would be way too neck heavy for that, so I got one of those Martin button strap things. It works great, but I wouldn’t want a permanent button on the headstock.

Indeed - up to around 1969, if the Google is to be believed.

My '62 AVRI Jazz Bass and 60's Original P Bass both have a button on the back of the headstock. I saw it called a Hootenanny button somewhere.

As for the strap adapter from Walker & Williams, I hadn’t realized they offered those. But Walker & Williams is a great company so far as I’m concerned. I’ve bought several guitar and mandolin straps from them after I discovered their existence: no other guitar strap manufacturer offers anything like their high quality straps anywhere close to their low prices. All of their straps and other products are made in the United States, too, not overseas.

Full disclosure: I am not an artist endorser for Walker & Williams and have no commercial ties to them whatsoever other than as a highly satisfied repeat customer.

Just wanted to say thanks very much for pointing out this company! Blown away. Just ordered and sent one to my oldest friend as a gift.

I agree as well.

To each their own I suppose, but that is a horrible place to install a strap button.

I have never seen a strap worn across the chest and under the armpit like that. Easier done with a rope than a wide leather strap.

You could remove it, sand some similar colored wood to get a good amount of wood dust, mix the dust with a good clear epoxy (not five minute, the longer curing time the better) to match the color as closely as possible.

Will be a strong repair.
