LOL! That was what I thought of as I slipped!
To explain; I ran into Neil at a Guitar shop. There was a Cole Clark with an oddly located Inlay. Neil said "Why" I said "thats where he slipped! LOL

LOL! I thought that they (being Australian) had "rugged" good looks but coming out of that conversation I see now that they have "jagged" good looks!

Default Dec 31

I repaired the top 2 different ways. Neither have erased it so far.

I saw a trick of lifting fibers and making little ridge grafts. I may or may not. I plan on French polishing for now and when I learn to spray it will be my Sunburst testing ground. So, a great repair is just good to learn.
I broke out the Bender and bent the Walnut Binding.

I taped it in place and cut the ends. I used blue tape to glue the binding in place. I need to find a giant rubberband or something that will squeeze tighted. But, the Blue tape did its job.
Next time I do the channel
I will do the inner cut first, then the outer/wider.
I will do a third pass to clean it up better
Sand the lower back edge to help it fit in better.
The final result really turned out very well. I had to sand and scrape the sides To level the sides and even up the binding. My sander is 3 blocks of Maple that are dead flat.

I glued some 150 on and rock n roll.. But I did have a liitle too much binding to sand down. Another sweep with the Laminate trimmer should make that step a touch easier.
Cutting the binding channel scared the heck out of me. The result put a smile on my face and a feeling like Prom Night.
This thing is starting to look like a Guitar!

The back crack reappeared. I filled and shimmed till the crack pushed out a slight bit. I glued then put top pressure on the crack. It seemed to fix it. I also took the opportunity to use "Rare Earth" magnets. They are fun.
I sanded down the Top quite a bit. It was still pretty thick. Unfortunately I screwed up the Rossette - again.

But! Its cool. I got a new set of inlay bits. I have a funky idea. If it works I will show you. If it doesn't I'll still show you for a laugh!

I've been a silent observer John but I just want to thank you for the build documentary. You could be the next Orange County Chopper show.

Yes! And he can dress the part.

John needs to order up a black Knight leather jacket with the McKnight logo on the back.

Mary just saw me after a month of relaxing (shaving 2 times lol). My gig started up again, I cleaned up my face.
I think every Black Knight should come with a McKnight Leather Jacket! NO ZIPPERS! Have your brother deliver them on his Harley lol That would get Tim quoted in the New York Times! (Again)
I could sit around in my McKnight jacket, sipping the Tea you gave me, out of my McKnight Coffee mug, while throwing my McKnight Balsa wood airplane.....
"has anyone seen my keys?" They have a leather McKnight Pick pocket on the ring.....
When Kitchen Guitars get launched I am hiring Mary to Market my guitars

Back to the guitar. I have some new photo's to post later today. I have been cleaning, prepping....ok avoiding doing the neck to body. But it is time to start.

I can't wait to see it finally done and finished, YJ. It's gonna be a tone monster. When you tapped the top last time we were there it had quite a bass drum kick!

Default Mods Please move to DYI I will post in custom a few guitars from now :)

April 1 update (my guitar is silly enough, no 4/1 Fiction )

It has been a while since I posted progress. Things got weird when I discovered, while scratching my head that the neck fit was funny, well.....I built the guitar backwards! My back is flat, my front is angled! I thought it was dead. But, I got coached through "making a new neck angle". I spent days here and there figuring out how to correct the angle. I started with a chisel but switched to a dove saw. Then chisels, then sand paper. My neck angle is there! Then I had to put the nut in the neck at the same pitch. I plugged the neck block so I can redrill the hole to match the neck angle. I am gluing a shim on a washer to correct the nut head.
Easy Peisy
I will post images after mods move the post from Custom.
Next up; Inlay madness has set in.......

Aw man, no pics? I'm sure you have a Polaroid laying around somewhere doncha?

Any chance of having the neck on this weekend? I'd love to come over and see. BTW, folks, ya gotta hear the resonance on this box. When you thump on it it sounds like a conga drum!
