Default Home Just for fun Recording...

I have no idea what to buy so that I can record myself (Vocal-Guitar) thru my computer.
I'm looking at this bundle

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...-recording-kit

Or is there an easier way? plug and play?

Just want to do some recording for myself...

That'll work. It's about as simple as it gets unless you buy a Zoom handheld recorder and upload recordings to a computer via USB. Depending on what you're planning to record, you may want another mic so you can make stereo recordings.

The other thing (if you want to be able to create mp3 files) is a free download.

Audacity is a fairly simple to use recording program that has a few effects, but for my needs, let's me create wav or mp3 files. There is an additional piece -- an extra file called "lame" that you'll need to download and save in a know location for the first (and only ever the first) time you try to make an mp3 file.

Lol. No, it's a required file that allows for mp3 encoding.

That's a good starter point for you, note you'll need a mic stand, too.

Most interfaces will give you an access code to download a 'lite' version of DAW software.

I have a Scarlet Solo and a Behringer UHC404HD and both came with a code for Ableton Live Lite 9.

OP, that bundle will get it done. After a while when you get better with using the DAW, you'll find yourself wanting a decent set of monitors. Lots of deals on them too. I picked up a decent set of M-Audio BX5a's for 80 bucks for the pair on Facebook Marketplace. I like them. they get the job done.

I’d also suggest that you get familiar with handheld recorders (Zoom) and how their use compares to computer based recorders.

I've got a Tascam DR5
It does a great job, but I like more of the plug and play..
And to listen you have to hook it u to the computer...

Isn't there a way to make it the microphone only for your computer and the recording is done through Audcity or ??

Electonic's lol.........

USB Microphone? Like the Blue Yeti USB, maybe. Picture on Amazon shows it begin plugged directly into a laptop.

I have a DR-05 and I'm not sure how it gets any easier than that. Plug a pair of headphones or the 1/8" stereo plug to a set of small powered computer monitor speakers to listen.

I had a low-buck Zoom H1 and it can be used as a usb microphone to a computer DAW; I think my DR-05 does the same thing, but I'm not sure about that. The problem with doing computer recording (other than all the technical hassles you can run into...) is that you're chained to one place and there's often the actual noise of the computer fan to deal with.

I have a few different recording setups, including A Zoom R24 for doing live band work, but the DR-05, a mic or camera tripod, and a set of reasonable quality headphones is pretty much the ultimate for quick and easy.

Yes, I'm beginning to think I'm over thinking it and letting gas for something new invade my common sense lol,

I have a pretty simple setup, which is good enough for my needs. I have a Blue Yeti mic, which connects directly via USB. If I want to plug in directly, I have an Apogee Jam component, which will connect to USB or lightning cable, so I can use GarageBand on my laptop or iPad.

I bought the Yeti used and added a stand via Amazon, and the Apogee was purchased new. All in for <$250 (maybe less), plus the laptop / iPad, which I already owned.

Just buy a USB mic and download Reaper for free.

IMO, that's the cheapest/easiest way to record yourself on a tight budget.

Audacity is "free", Reaper is not.
