They don’t ring out as much as other strings, IMO. Not bad, but not a sound I care for. And I don’t worry too much about string squeak - it’s a technique issue and a reason to practice more

Thanks again for the replies.. I see my store doesn't have them in stock so I will have to wait to try.

I had a set on a J45 I had set up for bottleneck slide. They were sqeaky clean. No string noise but they worked pretty well for bottleneck.

Flattops are my favourite string on the round neck Dobro. They get me closer to that growl I like with a resonator. They were good on the steel body Regal as well, but I've sold that. I have them on the Weissenborn, tuned to open F (CFCFAC, low to high).
I have used them on my flat top guitars as well but they tend not to stay bright enough long enough, though for the first day or two they record very well. They can tame an overly bright guitar, if that's ever a concern. Edit: Almost forgot, I sometimes use medium Flattops on my 27" scale baritone and tune D to D. It's maple back and sides and sometimes strikes me as a little bright with regular PB strings. Last edited by Mooh; 09-17-2018 at 08:10 PM. |

A band mate gave me a set. I kept for a couple of days, and they sound dead out of package. They’re not for me.

You might like them but they take too much tone off for me so no
