Has anyone heard Marc Regnier?
Back when the Musical Heritage Society was putting out discs and catalogs,
I took a chance on a CD by this unknown-to-me player, partly because he played a couple of pieces on it that Rey de la Torre (one of his teachers) had premiered. Anyway, the CD was a very pleasant surprise! I'd describe MR's playing as kind of Segovian, but without S's idiosyncrasies. Real good tone, phrasing, and rhythm.. it's just Music, and draws me in as a listener. If you spot this disc, give it a whirl! MHS 512242H: Ponce, Orbon, Tarrega, Nin-Culmell. Adding: Regnier's playing also reminds me some of John Mills; that sense that you're in good hands, and there is not that wall between player and listener that sometimes seems to be there. Nice stuff. Last edited by Carey; 05-05-2022 at 04:53 PM. |

Hi Carey,
New to me, so thanks for the heads up and tip. I'll check him out. And if he sounds anything like Mills, I like him already!

You are welcome, Andre! It looks like Regnier has a 2018 CD, too:
https://www.discogs.com/release/1396...Music-Of-Spain I'll be snagging that one. A little bio piece:https://charlestonmag.com/features/guitar_hero |

Thanks for that info, and I will be checking out Regnier's Tansman disc.
I've not heard a lot of that composer, but one piece and performance I liked a lot was Leonora Spangenberger's playing of a Passacaille by him. |
