Default NGD: Martin 000-28 Modern Deluxe

It's an unexpected NGD and now own a 2019 000-28 Modern Deluxe. I went to GC yesterday because I wanted to try out some rosewood Martins and they had a few in stock of various models. I had a Taylor 800 series a few years ago, but I sold it because I didn't like it, and it gave me a sour taste for rosewood. But recently I've been looking at Martin rosewood guitars. I played a D-28 and an OM-28. Then the sales manager handed me this 000-28, which I really liked. A lot. I asked about it and he told me it was a Modern Deluxe and explained the features.

While I was playing, I googled it on my phone and found out it really is a new model just released at NAMM this year and watched a few YouTube reviews. The GC store just got the guitar 2 weeks ago, and it was on the highest level rack so play has been minimal and even with the general GC opinions that they don't take care of their inventory, this guitar wasn't really there long enough to have any bad effects, and inspection passed my test.

I really liked it. The price was high, but the sales manager gave me 10% off which covers tax basically. And with the 45 day return policy, I figured I'd take it home. So far, I really really really really love it. It's the Martin sound I've been wanting for a long time. I love old Martins and music from the 60s and I really wanted that sound, but can't afford a vintage with BRW. So when I played this one, it just sounded good in my heart.

My only hesitation is that the 000-28 is just a tad bigger than I prefer. I really prefer 00 models. But the Modern Deluxe doesn't come in 00, and if it will be, I don't know. Plus, I honestly don't know if it will sound as good as the 000-28. I have a 00-18, so at least I have best of both worlds, but I just want to make sure I play the 000-28 enough to validate the cost since my other guitars are 00/grand concert sizes.

So even as much as I really don't prefer GC, I'm glad I have the 45 days to see how I like the size. Maybe some of you have similar experience and can weigh in on my minor mental blocker.

So happy tentative NGD Martin 000-28 Modern Deluxe to me. Who else has one? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Those seem like a great combination of features, to me, with the VTS top, protein glue, and, now, 1/4" bracing on the 000. I'd be surprised if you took it back!

I've been avoiding going to the GC in the area that actually has a couple of the MD models (D-28MD and 000-28MD, last time I checked - and they had an OM briefly). I'm really waiting for the OM (or 000) 18MD to show up before I test my willpower .

No pics--no NGD. You know the rules.

Happy NGD... I happen to think the 000 MD is probably the most special of this pack due to the 1/4" bracing which is unusual for a 000.

That said, as far as exercising your 45 day return policy, one thing to keep in mind is forum vendors here offer Martins at 60% retail. If you purchased your guitar at MAP then you can save something like $700.

That's the perfect size for me! I wonder if these modern enhancements really give this guitar the edge. Beautiful guitar!

Thank you!! Are these discounts possible options on even these new series? I suppose I need to make a few phone calls tomorrow.

All Martins, even custom shops that you personally spec. If I were buying a new Martin, Maury seems to be a favorite as far as stock and customer support.

Before I had a d-28, I wished that if I was to get one it would be
a modern deluxe... all its features sounded great and I wouldn't
mind having those funny bridge pins if they actually came on
the guitar ...

One never presented itself to me, though, and now I have a
different d-28.... I'm expecting you got a really cool one, though,
congratulations!

Congrats-she’s a beauty! You may find the larger body if fine, as I believe the thickness is the same as the OOs, and thats what makes them comfortable, at least Imho.
