If you had a Dread and an OM, what would be your next acoustic?
Let's say you had only a dreadnought and an OM of your choice, from the brand of your choosing.
What size or type of guitar would be your next acoustic guitar? What body size would you choose, and for what applications? |

An SJ-200 (jumbo) or a GA or concert like a Taylor X14 or X16 model. Which one depends on which specific models you have now and the type of playing you do.

Thanks for the feedback! What do you think a jumbo would add over what I can do with the dread and the OM?

Slope shoulder... a Gibson J-45. Because everyone needs a good J-45. Probably THE most versatile all-arounder available, and nothing else sounds like it.

It would have twice as many strings as the other two.

If money is no object? A carved archtop. Now you have an acoustic that's voiced for jazz!

A parlor size. Think Martin 0-18, Taylor GS Mini, Eastman Parlor, etc. It's summer, you need to go to the beach....with a guitar!

I would go smaller. Something delicate for finger picking.

L-00 type guitar hands down! Get some thump and focus.

Either a maple small jumbo, like a Collings SJ: crisp and articulate, great driving strummer, also a good finger style guitar
Or a small guitar like a Collings 01 or 02: terrific for leads, surprisingly loud, and the right size for playing everywhere (And were I to limit my selection to three: I'd trade the dreadnought in for a slope, like the J-45 Brencat recommends or a Huss & Dalton DS or a Collings CJ or CJ35) |

A Jumbo 12 string and a Jumbo Baritone.
Now you have all the basses covered.

I like the idea of either a Gibson or a Taylor. Your call on that one, but I think your bases are covered with what you have.

J45, or a 00 (Martin, or H&D), or a Collings 0.
For me, it would depend upon where the Dread and OM took me, and based on those two, what ground I felt was not adequately being covered for how I play.

A tiny parlor, like the featherweight Collings Baby 2H-MT I played at the Denver Folklore Center a couple weeks ago. I may have the model # wrong. It was all-mahogany. About $5,500.
