Does this mean you're about to do some A/B between the Martin DSS-17 and this new Taylor?

Does this mean one will stay and one will go?

Hmmmm????

Do tell!!!!

I have a strict one-in-one-out policy...so the Martin slope is already in the hands of a VERY grateful fellow AGFer. It’s a great guitar. But you better want a LOUD, raw, brash, untamed tone heavy on jangly trebles. Great for a lot of styles...but ultimately not for me. Was a blast having that guitar for the past few months, but now at the suggestion of some buddies who’ve tried ‘em I got this Grand Pacific in my continuing quest to find a mid-level backup for my trusty D-41.

Yes, please! This is worse than, "I have a secret but, I can't tell you."

I literally just messed with it for 10-15 mins...then put it in its case with some Humidipaks. Doesn’t look like it’s too dry, but I want to give 24 hours of humidified case time before I do a string change and truss rod adjustment tomorrow. Looking forward to getting the Elixirs off and trying some Santa Cruz Mid Tension. Then maybe some JP PBs.

So initial impressions? Great craftsmanship even on this “cheap” Grand Pacific version. Cool that the top is gloss but back and sides satin. Good volume. Maybe a little different tone than typical for Taylor...but still sounds very much like a V-braced Taylor. Balanced, crisp...and light on the bass compared to my Martin dread (no surprise). Comfortable size. Didn’t wilt under aggressive strumming.

All this might change once I get new strings on it and dial in the setup. I’ll know more in a few days...

My new Taylor was on a Fedex Truck and tracking said the same thing. It was supposed to be here Saturday, but tracking said it was 50 miles away to be delivered on Monday. Then it arrived a couple of hours ago. New guitars are soooo fun! Enjoy yours.

Sheesh...relax folks. The guitar has traveled through five states in four days. The case is measuring in the low 40s RH. My home and D-41 case are measuring in the mid-50s RH. I didn’t have time to play it today anyway...so I’m letting it sit overnight to acclimate a bit to its new surroundings before I start some setup stuff tomorrow. No biggie...
