The Loar LH204 Brownstone
I’ve had this for about a week now and cannot put it down. I absolutely love it. If anyone is looking for a affordable small body I highly recommend this. I was suprised how loud it is especially fingerstyle. I picked this up used for $199, but even new they are under $500. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s a really beautiful guitar.

A big, big guitar! Narrow nut though?

Yeah, but doesn’t feel to cramped. The full scale neck helps.

That finish gives an attractive rustic look to the top, which is something I admired when that model first came out.
I know that Loar makes guitars at different price points, some with all-solid woods, some with laminated backs and sides. What is the wood used for the back and sides of this guitar? Normally I can discern that at a glance, but not this time. Is it some sort of tropical hardwood like ovangkol? It looks kind of like walnut, but I'm not certain. One of my frequent music partners owns an all-solid wood Loar that's a close copy of the Lloyd Loar-era Gibson L-5, visually similar to this one: ˙˙˙ It's a nice-sounding instrument. whm |
