This Old Guitar (Will Go On)
I just posted a live performance of a new song. It's about the different guitars a person goes through in their life:

A nice clever song and well performed. Congrats. Do you do much live like that?

Quote:
I moved to Asheville NC about 5 months ago and am doing open mics in order to work my way up into gigging in my new area. I have had a couple of paid gigs at a local coffee shop, but nothing to brag about yet. I played around town regularly when I was living in Gainesville Florida. One thing that surprised me about this town is that there is actually a market for original music! In fact, some places only let their performers play original music since they don’t pay the ASCAP/BMI/SESAC fees. I hadn’t written a song in years and while I really like the fact that there is a market for original music here, I was completely unprepared to take advantage of it. That was the motivation for writing this: the fact that original music is encouraged here and that someone might actually listen to it! It was my first original song in years! Now if I could just figure out how to do that again... |

Haha! I have never YET managed to write anything original, although I have many ‘snippets’ and ‘false starts’ that I need to finish. I just don’t seem to be built with the inbuilt talent needed. I look forward to more of your originals when you get around to them. Regards, Dave

This Old Guitar (Will Go On)
A friend recorded the video with a Canon DSLR and the audio with a little Zoom recorder. He had the DSLR on some kind of shoulder rig.
It was still a little shaky, so I stabilized in post with the excellent Mercalli SAL software. I also used a little bit of iZotope RX7 to get rid of some of the low frequency ambient noise. The lighting was not very good there. Mostly behind the performers so if you were there it looked like a silhouette. I was surprised at how well the camera dealt this with this. The sound system was ok, but they plug in the guitars straight into the board so there was a bit of an impedance mismatch and resulting low level and tinniness. The Godin sounds better than that usually. In spite of that I thought it was decent enough to post. One thing my wife always complains about is that when I buzz my little bit of remaining hair with the clippers, I always seem to miss a little patch on my neck. I can see what she is talking about! Lol! |
