Default "Funkafied"

it's a wav, you can download or stream it.

a mellow, spacey groovy thing.....
....i'm not saying that if you are slightly altered it wont work as well....

really experimented with clean guitar tones on this one...
and a lot of walking finger bass....
the drums are completely synth, so this whole thing is a bit of a new twist for me.

currently this one works as an instrumental....
but i'd like to try a different approach with it.
i'm working out a lyric and melody for it right now.....
would love to hear any comments or suggestions....

OK,
SO i wanted to show you the shortscale custom guitar i used on this one......

guitar used:
The Williams Special is a Les Paul-Strat-Mustang-Explorer hybrid, with hollow body cavities, Mustang scale length, built like a paul with mahagony and maple top, with vintage-dimension strat body, explorer headstock.

a custom build (obviously!) i think it's pretty unique...

started out with a EMG SA assembly, that was changed to a pair of Wilde L-280's in neck and middle, with a duncan Lil 59'r in the bridge, SOON to become a Wilde L-45.K,

Never seen a bad-looking Explorer headstock!

Man, this track sounds great. The audio quality is excellent. You did a great job mixing the tracks with all that reverb and echo without it sounding muddy--all the tracks had their place in the mix and added to the whole. I also am a huge fan of the highly-compressed, echoey, chorused single-coil "pop". Thanks for sharing this one!

thanks so much for listening!

almost all of those tracks, use analog processing, and all the effects were printed with the tracks.

i don't always do it that way, in fact, usually i record bone dry.

add stuff later on mixdown.

but not on this one.

i used a POD XT on this one, the clean setting that is the LINE 6 sig setting....
and i do believe it had an outboard compressor on it, probably the Barber Tone Press.

plus, maybe a bit of compressor from a DBX going into the soundcard.

Got it. I've been undecided on how to do it--record tracks with effects or record dry and then add them to the mix later. I'm still doing tracks "wet", but might start experimenting more with post-recording effects. Thanks for the ideas.

yeah, with that kind of decision, you gotta experiment.

it works both ways, and you just have to have enough experience to make the call when the time comes.

same thing for room mics, close vs distant, direct and miced, etc.
