Default Need help with live streaming guitar & vocals

OK so since I am stuck home for a while I would like to be able to do some live streaming videos of playing and singing. I have tried just playing acoustically and using my iphone, but it sounds pretty bad with no effect added and the guitar always overpowers my voice. How can I broadcast live and get some decent audio quality when live streaming? I would like to be able to use my TCH Harmony GTX pedal for the vocal and guitar effects, but I don't know how to go from the pedal into my laptop or iphone. My Harmony GTX only has an XLR out. My laptop has USB. I am guessing I need a little USB mixer or something like the Focusrite Scarlett? Which is a better option? Keep in mind, this is for live streaming...not recording, although recording is a nice option. I am thinking a mixer would also be useful for live gigs down the road after this crisis is over, whereas the Scarlett unit will probably not get much use after this?

thoughts and recommendations?

Some options:
1- play acoustically without PA into this Which can either record or stream live:
https://www.zoom-na.com/products/fie...video-recorder

2-plug this into your iPhone
https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/microphones/mv88

3- setup a small PA in the room and use your iPhone to capture it And stream via Facebook live or whatever app you prefer

4- run main outs from mixer to a pc with a Focusrite or other USB interface.

5- Then, Use this free software to stream audio from any source connected to PC plus video from any Camera or webcam Also connected to the PC

Sorry about all of the weird capitalization, I am doing this on my phone and of course it is stupid.

I've been trying to figure this out for a few days myself, and got some great feedback from folks here.

https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=575476

I'm now trying this, which means I ordered it but who knows when it will get here

https://www.guitarcenter.com/IK-Mult...#productDetail

Here's a short to-the-point video that explains it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rqPiXpcd1I

I think this will do the trick, but I'll find out.

Many of the sudden-livestreamers around here used their gigging setups and planted mics in front of them--the MV88 would work great in that setup. That not only adds effects if desired but solves the voice/guitar imbalance for those of us like me who are not always great at that acoustically. The only hitch is, that's if you're off in the woods or have understanding neighbors. I can't do that in my apartment, so I'm trying the mixer approach as well.

In fact since it's just me with voice and guitar, I'm using my Boss VE-8, which has many output options including a mono 1/4-inch, perfect for the iRig2. A surprising amount of mixers have USB output options--including my Yamaha MG10XU (as does the VE-8). But that gets into drivers and stuff, trying to avoid all that.

Keep us posted. I'm trying to come up with a simple solution.

plugging everything in and just recording that isn't very practical since my wife is always home now and she won't appreciate that.

the Shure mic is OK....I tried it a while back and returned it. Thought it wasn't worth $150 for such a small upgrade from the iphones built in mic.

So I need a way to play quietly and be able to use effects and stream it live.
I think my only choices are a USB mixer or an interface like the Scarlett. Not sure if I would need both. Would be great if I could use mu existing Sennheiser Dynamic mic and not buy a condenser.

Is there a way to use your iphone for live streaming, but plugging something directly in?

I can't help if you feel the need to electrify your performance and use fx etc., but I make my simple (simplistic) metod on my YouTube videos are with a Zoom Q4.
That's it.

I don't even edit.

If I understand your question, yes. If I am correct about the iRig2, I'll be able to go Mic + Guitar into mixer, mixer into iRig, iRig into smartphone, smartphone into livestreaming. The smartphone camera handles the video, the iRig2 injection handles the audio (taking over the phone's mic input0

In my case my mixer will be the Boss VE-8 but that's irrelevant.

The video link I posted yesterday in this thread at 1:07 pm explains. Last link.

Is it possible to plug guitar and vocals into my Zoom H6n...and plug the 1/8in line out (or headphone jack for that matter) into s TRS to TRRS adapter plugged into my LG V30 (smart phone)? Would this work as far as better sound for FB Live? (I'm just not sure if TRS to TRRS adapters are ONLY for microphones to smartphones where I'm trying to use it basically for a smartphone input)

I think it depends partly on whether the line out of the Zoom presents a signal that's the same as what we call line-level for amps and mixers n' stuff. Because that's what the iRig2 is designed to do, present a line-level signal to iPhones and certain Android phones. Of course you'd need a 1/8th inch (3.5mm) -to - 1/4 inch adapter to fit into the iRig guitar input jack.

As for the TRS/TRRS thing I don't know. The standard 1/4 inch guitar jack is simply TS (TS). That's what I plan to use for my "mixer" input from my VE-8.

I'm on the edge of my expertise if not beyond it so anyone with a firmer grip on this, feel free!

Does the I-rig2 have mic and guitar input? I always thought it was for guitar only..

It's a line-level input. It has a little guitar icon at the input point. It has been marketed for guitars and for all I know may better for them. But if you have a mixer or similar device that can take a mono output into a quarter-inch jack, you can connect it to the iRig2, at least according to that video. I mean obviously you can connect it, the question is what will it sound like. I should find out fairly soon!

I've done two FaceBook Live shows.

In this first one, I plugged guitars and a mic directly into my Bose S1 and the sound was picked up by my iPad microphone. The sync is off (as it is in many of these I've seen), but the sound is pretty good. Very simple setup and it worked pretty well. FB Live only does 360p unfortunately.

In my second video, I went through my pedalboard, so a Boss AD10 pedal for the guitar and a TC Helicon Harmony pedal for the vocal. I felt my guitar was too boomy in this one and it actually fed back a couple of times. Perhaps the S1 was too loud.

Over 1200 views on the first and over 500 on the one I did last night. While I was actually live, each show had about 350 viewers. It was pretty cool.

It's not Live, but I just recording direct through my Samsung S9 mobile phone.
Guitar is a little loud, but that's just something to work on for the next one.

Sounds good, but its the same issue I run into whenever I make a phone only recording....the guitar drowns out the vocals. Especially on hard strumming tunes. Acoustic phone recordings work best when you play softly or fingerpick.
