inexpensive pickguards for j45 and others.
Hi All
Finally bought a 2018 Gibson J 45 which I've wanted for years. Sadly, the flubber pickguard doesn't cut it for me. I wanted the classic firestripe guard. I looked all over but only found expensive custom made ones or raw materials until I stumbled upon all kinds of guards at of all places AliExpress. Found the one I was looking for wait for it 2 dollars. https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/...Id=32917727871 bought two others for friends as gifts. sure it may take weeks for them to arrive but hell I'm willing to wait. thought you Gibson types might want to know. cheers |

Yeah, I couldn’t get past the registration page, either. I’m interested in looking at $2 firestripe pickguards, no question about that, but hesitate at signing up for anything first.

The link you posted is returning a 404 (Not Found exception) and requiring a login because it includes your specific order Id. Here's the link stripped of that reference number:

I scrolled through that page, but didn't see anything that would normally be considered a firestripe pickguard. There were some tortoiseshell plastic pickguards, but none in the firestripe pattern.
These are what most guitarists and collectors mean when they say "firestripe pickguards": Hope that makes sense. Wade Hampton Miller |

Be aware that the $2 pickguard is almost certainly gonna be a floppy bit of printed vinyl.its not for nothing that a look enhancing pickguard cost a bit( lot) more.good luck.

For some reason, the first thing that comes to mind -- You get what you pay for.
Of course, if you are going to order, better do so quick before the 10% tariff goes into effect raising the cost to $2.20.

Why put an inexpensive pick guard on such an iconic guitar?

After reading this post I took a scan through some custom pickguard that are on the market and........... Well,I saw some beautiful guards, especially from Graves, but they cost a small fortune.( But they do look cool).

So you are OK spending a couple of thousand for a guitar but not $50-75 for the pickgaurd? That's like buying a $3,000 Armani suit and then paying $10 for some payless shoes.

I think if I spend $3000 on a guitar,I would expect it to have some pretty classy accoutrements as standard.there's custom builders making everything from hand poured pickguards.. to hand made gold machine heads with silver inlaid ebony buttons and quite possibly zircon encrusted tweezers) but I don't have the money for that kind of stuff, and would probably pass on it anyway.

PI certainly wouldn't put a naff pickguard on any guitar and I must say,my skinny wallet started twitching as I perused some of those lovely Graves pickguards.oh the dangers of the acoustic guitar forum,I forsee a couple of months of rice and lentils and a new pickguard for one of my guitars on the horizon.
