BOOT LACES that STAY TIED?
Not sure if this is a question or a rant. I have a pair of Thursday Captains and the kevlar laces they came with are so slippery that they seem to actually repel themselves. Replaced them with Cobbler's Choice waxed and they were not waxed and shredded in a couple weeks! Seeking suggestions for high quality waxed boot laces.

I had an issue with my new Hiking boots doing the same thing last year. I got new laces from the following. No more issues….

One thing I learned was at the "rabbit runs around the tree" portion of tying a bow, have the rabbit run around the tree again. My boot strings now stay tight without having to double know.
I don't know if that will help your situation but I thought I'd share.

That there's a physics component involved in shoestrings was something I only learned a few years ago but it really made a difference in my shoes staying tied.

Believe it or not, there is a short Ted Talk on the topic. And it works.

Through ne plus ultra preternatural prescience, I predict that post #7 will be by merlin666 who will say:
And my reply to that post will be: Perhaps the poster should find diagrams on how to use YouTube...grin...

For those who are not youtube literate, someone please post diagrams of these knots.

Buy some Salomon shoes and you won’t bother with knots.

Lace locks are available at most running shops and for athletic shoes there's a locking pattern built into the lace pattern in the final four holes of the shoe. The staff at a running shop can show you how in 30 seconds or less. Stride on!

I have never found laces for my hiking boots that stay tight, so I use this double knot which works great:
https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/berluti-knot.htm (this website also has a bunch of other options that I've never tried)

Very generally, I find that flat laces stay tied better than round laces. I'm sure there are exceptions.

After watching the video that Paul posted, I'm feeling like I'm 5 again learning how to tie my shoes. Seems so simple, but is not...at least for this guy.
Excited to try this out today because my Superstars have been coming untied throughout my teaching day! Thanks Paul! |
