My wife is collecting SS, and I get a monthly 401k withdrawl. We are both retired, and we received the first two stimulus check, but have yet to receive the third. I did file taxes in 2019 and in February of this year too and we still have yet to receive our refund. I know the IRS is behind on tax refunds, but we don't get why we got the first two stimulus checks but not the third, and the government hasn't been helpful in explaining the delays either....

The third payments are still being processed. Did you check the Get My Payment portal at the IRS? Maybe your income disqualified you from this round. The income threshold was lower for the third payment than either of the first two.

Thanks - yes, I check that site at least weekly, and our income is actually lower in 2020 than in 2019 since I retired in 2019.

Well, we don’t either but now we have to to get our $600 and so would anybody in our shoes.

Understand, jp, but the income threshholds for the 3rd stimulus were lower than those of either of the first two payments. So, that's still a possibility, but it's more likely you just haven't received it yet.

Riverwolf, that's not quite true. The stimulus checks were called Economic Impact Payments and they were considered prepayments of a refundable tax credit on your 2020 tax return. A refundable credit means that you will get it even if you don't have to pay taxes and don't have to file. So, if you owe nothing and have no income, you will still get the stimulus payments.

Once again and to clarify, if you don’t get one of the payments, you do have to file or you will never get the one you missed.
This is the case regardless of the fact that you owe no taxes.

Rok, I assume you're talking about the first two because the third round of payments was not reconciled on the 2020 return.

Yes Kerbie, I was referring specifically to round two.
Ironically my wife got hers and I didn’t. Perhaps someone is trying to tell me something.

Still no third stimulus check, but yesterday, after almost 90 days beyond electronically filing our 2020 income taxes, we received our refund. Hopefully that is a good sign for getting our outstanding stimulus soon.

I gave up and used Turbo Tax online free version.
Will mail my return today.
I tried all available tracking choices to no avail.
Even tried to register with the IRS, no good. Says I have wrong address?
Tried a few old addresses.
Gave up.

I didn't get the first or the 3rd. And threw away the second (a credit card - we get them all the time and they go into the circular file, unopened, along with other junk mail). When I learned of it, they gave us a replacement. No idea why the others haven't arrived.

It's not like I especially need the money. If I ever receive it, I would give it away to a local organization, one who does need it. No sense in letting the federal government hang onto it, not when I can do some good with it.
