J45 Strings
So what are some of the Gibson J45 Standard owners here running as far as strings are concerned? Lights? Mediums? Is anybody using the Santa Cruz Parabolic tensions strings?
What is your current favorite, and why? |

Daddario Nickel Bronze .12's for me. Bright and snappy then they settle in with good punch and last a long time. I've tried just about everything on my J-45 and I think I've finally settled on these.

If you like a tone that accentuates warm, woodiness of any mahogany guitar, then IMO Curt Mangan Round Core Monels are the way to go. They've become my standard go-to string.
Just keep in mind that they take a while to break in - but then sound wonderful for a long, LONG time. |

Using Martin Retro 13’s on mine and I love them with the Hog.

My favorite strings on a J-45 back when I owned a couple were:
1. Santa Cruz Mid Tension PBs 2. D'Addario EXP-16 Lights 3. Martin Retro Monel Lights

I've been around the string block with my J45 over the years. Many different Mediums, lights, customs, John Pearse, Santa Cruz Low Tension. I have returned to Elixir Nano PB HD Lights because I like the overall tone and the bit of extra oomph on 1 and 2. YMMV.

Martin Monel 11’s. I play exclusively with my fingers. If I was more of a picker, I’d bump up to 12’s.

My J45 is the least string sensitive guitar I’ve ever had. It sounds great with anything. But I usually use Monel 12s on it

I’m in a love affair with DR Sunbeams on my Southern Jumbo.

Im with Roger!
I think I least preferred Martin Retros... I always used light strings - most often Daddario coated PBs, Elixir PB Lights, and Martin Lifespan PB Lights. |

Yep…the SC Mids were my favorites on the J-45s I owned.

Have had Curt Mangan hex core monels on it (2018 CS Banner) for a little over a month now. They're still a little hard sounding to me. I think I'm going back to the retros. Haven't had much luck with round core, but haven't tried the monel variety. Mangan is having a sale. Might be worth a shot.
