Asian Guitar Fret Slots Often Cut Too Deep
Any ideas for why many Asian made guitars have fret slots cut extremely deep and appear to have the tang cut back as if for binding? Do you imagine the fret slot is only extra deep along the edge to hold some kind of filler? Here's a shot of an electric that really brings it home:

At least 95% of new guitars sold these days are made in Asia. You need to be more specific.

Imgbox seems to serve the pictures really slowly these days. Wait a bit and you'll see a good shot.

For decades, nay generations, the Martin Guitar Co. cut the fret slots very deeply.
It accommodated refretting without the need to deepen slots.

If you use Imgur you won't have this kind of problem when posting to forums. |

Yet another free posting service falls apart after a few years of using them. I should have paid Photobucket when they transitioned away from free instead of moving to Imgbox. If I go to load new photos are check my library, Imgbox is still working this morning. I hate all my old posts going down when the service dies.

Nothing wrong with deep slots within reason of course. Especially on bound fingerboards, it gives plenty of room for resurfacing the fretboard. Once the fret is hammered or pushed in it closes the kerf and the fretboard has full strength, again within reason.
