Darn strings that lasts forever, =(...

Happy Friday crew!

I am annoyed. I have Elixir PBs on all my guitars. They are lasting forever. I Just bought myself some D'addario nickel Bronze and Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze to try... but all of my guitars sound fresh. annoyed and impaitient.

Anyways, has anyone A/B both Nickel Bronze and Aluminum Bronze - Thoughts?

I would just go ahead and put the new strings on if you’re curious. I love both those strings on my Breedlove.

change. in order to get a fair comparison you need to change to the new strings while the current are still fresh.

I also think a lot of Elixir users change their strings too early.

The Aluminum Bronze ring out loud and clear, but in my experience they get dirty faster than the Nickel Bronze. Neither will keep their initial tone as long as Elixirs. The Aluminum bronze will sound better longer, but will look dirty if that makes sense.

Elixirs do last for a long time. I usually change them when I get tired of looking at the worn spots on them, but the tone is still usually quite good. Then I save them in the pocket in my guitar case. I use EXP’s too, and when the low E and A Strings start to sound dead I swap them out for the worn Elixirs. I really hate the sound of dead strings. I prefer the tone of the EXPs but the Elixirs sound good for such a longtime.

You might be pleasantly surprised how long the Nickel Bronze strings last...

Strings will actually last until you take them off. They’re pretty resilient.

Well, of course they do. Whether you’ll like how they sound, feel, and stay in tune after some period of time is entirely another matter.

They do seem to last. I have been meaning to change mine but they still sound good to me, although they look awful. They have tarnished from the perspiration from my fretting fingers.

I concur. The Daddario Nickel Bronze strings I have on my guitar is close to a year old by now. Of course, I take care of the strings after practice. When I re-tune the guitar, I also take care not to turn the tuners too fast. I almost always break the G string during tuning, but with the Nickel Bronze I was pleasantly surprised it's holding up quite well.

The sound today is not like it was when it was fresh out of the pack, but it ain't bad either.

Funny post to me. I just found a set of Elixers about 15 yrs old never used in me closet. I put them on my HD-35. They still sounded great. Inside a week they were dead. Really dead. My low E string sounded like I was plucking an antenna, lol. As timing would be, I've since installed a Plate Mate (google it) and titanium bridge pins (5 degree taper for Martin's). The strings still sound ultra-dead but with a sustained harmonic sheen, lol. Will, try my everso tried and true go-to strings (Pyramid round core Phos Bronze 13's) next.

I put Elixer strings on a guitar once. I couldn't get them off fast enough. Made my guitar sound like it was wrapped in a blanket. So to hear they sound the same after 6 months or a year sounds about right to me. Because to me, they sound dead right out of the package.
