Default New Rainsong JM1000, should I get a pickguard?

Just got a new Rainsong JM1000, however upon playing it, I started to wonder if I should get a pickguard for it?

I would hate for it to ruin the tone, it sounds perfect the way it is. I just don't want to ruin the guitar with scratches etc. from my pick.

Or is the top/finish durable enough to simply not worry about it?

And lastly,

If you do think I should get a pickguard, which one? From where? Size?

Thanks,

Scott

Whenever I get a new guitar I put these clinging pickguards on them. They work great and you can removed them in seconds. Your not going to hurt your JM1000 without them but i always get swirl marks on my guitars from picks and fingernails. It will not affect tone at all. Recently I have been getting his rectangle sheets and cutting my own to fit each guitar and it shape and personality. Below is their standard clear, got some bubbles, you can work most out, leave it on a week and most bubbles will be gone. I do think Rainsong is one of the best finishes not to show marks, however, still I like the easy protection.

No harm to be done. I have the black cling-on on my Rainsong. Been there for a year. No issues whatsoever.

Or you could look at it like...every scratch has a story.

Does the "standard dreadnaught" style fit a WS without trimming?

No, the cutout is too tight to go around the abalone rosette, it would fit fine on the sound hole I think, but I wanted it out further so you could see the rosette. It was no big deal to trim it to fit well though. Heck, you get 2 pick guards for 6 bucks....you can't go wrong giving them a try! My CO top started showing marks right away, so I put a black one on.

Thanks John. For $6, I'll give it a whirl.

I put the pick guard that came with my JM1000 on the guitar. Trust me. It did NOT harm the tone or the volume...and it looks much better and is protected too. If there is a difference in the tone or sound by putting on the pick guard, it would take superman's ears to hear it. I love the way it looks too. The guitar looks complete with a pick guard...not like some icon of purified religion by remaining virgin without a pick guard. Put it on! Use it! Love it! Revel it it! The JM1000 is a GIANT of a guitar!..with a GIANT sound! No pick guard on earth will diminish it delicious roaring and humming as it vibrates in your lap, seriously, the pick guard will not harm your RainSong JM1000..it will enhance it!

Wondering if these clingy pickguards are the same thing used for screen protectors on cell phones and tablets? Assuming so, I have a piece of tablet screen protector I can trim and use

Changed my mind and ordered from DSCustom....$8US including shipping to Canada is very reasonable

Well, just received a refund from DSCustom indicating they no longer ship international. On to searching for a Canadian supplier of something similar....

Perhaps a moot point now, but no, the cling pickguard I referred to is not the same material as a cell phone screen protector (at least not the screen protector's I've used). It's much more flexible, sort of like really thick plastic wrap.

I believe that carbon fiber would be one of the better pick guards
