Default Anyone playing a newer USA Melody Maker?

Anyone else own one? I feel like they're solid guitars. I found one for under $500 which seems like a bargain for a US made guitar.

I've got a 2011 Gibson Melody Maker Special, which I scored new for $379.99 at a Sam Ash President's Day sale back then.

Great guitar. The P90's in this one are fantastic.

wow that thing looks amazing. The one I found has dual single coil pickups and the slim melody maker headstock, but otherwise looks pretty similar.

Man, I love those guitars, but I don’t have one. I do have a lower-end USA made SG with (I assume) the same P90s, and they are cool sounding pups. Nice growl to them, but with that single coil top end.

Nice guitars! Can't help but wonder if Gibson were to bring these back would there be a market for them? Even if it was just a short run. Gibson seems to be toying with doing a lot of short run guitars - endorsed by artists.

Since they were Gibson's bottom of the line "starter guitars" I would doubt that they could market them at a price where they could justify re-introducing them. Especially considering similar guitars like the Epiphone Les Paul Melody Maker, selling for just over $150 new.

I had one of these a couple years ago , a single pickup version that sold because I wanted to look for one with two pickups. But that one was a solid guitar. Same neck as a les Paul special I owned. The MM felt every bit as good in build quality. I’d take one over any Epiphone any day but I’m a little snobbish on certain guitars. I’m excited to finally get the two pickup version!

I found a used 2014 Les Paul Melody Maker at my local Sam Ash a few years ago. For the price they were asking ($400), I should have snapped it up immediately. But I decided to give it a day, so as not to be too impulsive.

The guitar was still there the next day, so it came home with me.

This model featured a slim mahogany body with belly cut, a carved maple cap, nitrocellulose finish, maple neck/rosewood fretboard, and P90S pickups (slug poles, instead of the traditional screw poles).

I have a 2004 MM with a dogear P-90 and a Tune-0_Matic bridge. Great sounding P-90 and the Gibson slim neck to me is more comfortable than the Epiphone D shape neck. Epi P-90's don't have the same grit either. YMMV. To me this configuration would be worth looking into.

Sorry, but I really like this one, and I'm gonna hang on to it!

But I do see these 2011 Melody Maker Specials for sale once in a while, so good luck!

Man that tv yellow is classic. I’m contemplating taking a can of stew Mac nitro to mine once it arrives. I’m not a huge fan of straight black guitars. Either that , or relic down the paint to the wood in a few places. Here’s a pic from reverb.

I've had my MM since 1972. TTop Humbuckers.
Laurent Brondel did a refret, new vintage style tuners, and refinished the multiple headstock breaks.
The old buckers sound better than the Throbaks that were in my SG.
The new ones are a snazzy go to.

Alright got the MM a few days ago and love it. Solid guitars! The only thing is it’s small. I’m getting all sorts of back pain trying to play it while seated. If someone built an upper bout enlarger for it I’d buy.

Use a strap. That solves the problem of playing a smaller body when seated.
