HAHA! I get it! I ran a high-availability IT center, complete with all flavors of engineers, techs, computer scientists , customer service, etc. You want a great laugh? Try hosting the annual Holiday party for 241 introverted software folks with questionable conversational skills....

Oh, yeah...of course they would get nurtured and encouraged to develop their skills... I told many guys when I showed them how something was done, that if they could find a way to perform the task at hand quicker, more efficiently, and would not compromise the integrity of the project, we'd be more than pleased to put their ideas in to action...I always found that encouragement and positive reinforcement paid off well... But sometimes, an idea that sounds great in theory really just doesn't work in practical application... especially one that's been proven long before the newbie got there... The good ones understand, accept that with no acrimony, and become good employees...the reluctant ones who won't, or get their ego hurt, usually don't stick around...

In my other world this is the type of guy that I would interject smart mouthed quips to as he rambled on. He's the type that wouldn't get it let alone notice it. Then when I had enough I'd tell him to getaway from me

I would say the people doing the hiring are at a higher pay-grade as anyone worried or complaining about the new person. If people don’t like co-workers, they should simply not engage them. Or, become owners or the hiring authority and hire someone different. Unfortunately, it’s not the worker’s responsibility to critique the bosses unless they’re ready to buy the company. Just work, collect the check, and go home.
No surprise I’ve never wanted to be around office politics, rumor-mills, problems, issues or complaining co-workers. |

** Update **
HE hasn't caught on. Even the secretary restricts her conversations now to a nod and a smile and she talks to EVERYBODY, lol

I've known the type. They're kind of fun to toy with. They usually tell you enough about themselves to figure out what offends them, scares them, or repulses them, and that gives me an opening to create a phoney argument. I play until I'm bored then ignore them.

Recognize the Problem
I paraphrase some historic advice regarding some co-workers: "never get involved in a land war in Asia or a conversation with (that person)." I've worked with supervisors who are sneaky about this. They will ask about you as a pretext for beginning an extended conversation about them. Recognize this and develop a preventative plan to avoid and then extricate yourself from these situations. You will be much happier.
