We don't have Carmax anywhere within a 4 hour drive here, but we have a local used lot that's an extension of a large dealer an hour away. They've paid me reasonable amounts in cash, and I'm getting ready to unload my Jeep there in the next week or so. A little bit less money, but zero headache, and a done deal.

I've had really good luck with local yard sale pages on Facebook. I just sold a car this way this past May.

I hate Craigslist because people will want to drive longer distances to come see it. A friend of mine who is a car dealer says he really hates it when people come see it who live over an hour away because they are ALWAYS disappointed with something about the car. It's like they feel that the longer they drive, the more perfect the car should be for some reason.

Many moons ago I had a car to sell that I was asking $300 for. A young guy came to look ate it and asked me if it was a good car. I just said it's a $300 car.
