I’m looking forward to your D35 video. I haven’t played the reimagined ones yet. I played the pre imagined one at Gruhn guitars last summer. If I didn’t have a guitar already on layaway I would have figured out a way to take it home. Hope you can do a comparison between D35 and 41 but the extra bling always throws me off. Your Outlaw shines!

I have a Martin Outlaw. IMO as far as a hog b&s guitar, there is no comparison. I also own a D-18 and the DSS-18 which are really fine hogbacks. But the outlaw has all the attributes of a great Authentic martin with a modern neck. I hate to insult my walnut Goodall or CS-D-42 Guatamalan Rosewood/adi but the outlaw is played the most.

I can't answer your question, Gary. But, that Outlaw does sound incredible. As always, great playing!

Great input from all. Thank you. I really want to find a D41 to play locally. That would answer a lot of my questions.

I played the new 2018 new D-41, HD-28, and Outlaw back to back at CME this weekend. I was initially of the opinion that the D-41 should sound no different than the HD-28. But, my impression was that the D-41 DID have something extra to offer. I don't know what it was (quality of woods, abalone, etc.) But, it had something different to offer than the new HD-28. Also, the new D-41 did seem to keep up with the new Outlaw they had. Go try one.
My bottom line is that the new 2018s have raised the bar for Martin. The new neck is excellent and the forward shifting of all the guitars has been successful. I also brought home two new toys, but I'll leave that for another day. ;-)

You know, before the reimagined series came out, I always said that if they would put a 1.75" nut on the HD-28 and make it look like the D-18 with the tuners and the toner that I'd buy one in a heartbeat. But, after playing 2 I've just been let down. I can't put my finger on it. I tend to like the straight braced versions of each guitar in the reimagined series....imagine that! |

My 000-28 just sold and rather than rush out and buy something, I'm going to try and see how life goes with just my J-45. I truly love that guitar. I also just bought a nice LP and am getting the electric itch for the first time in 4 years. I might work on rebuilding my electric rig and just give my J-45 some love!

Heck, I'd save the money or use it to go on a nice vacation...what more could you want out of a guitar than what you're already getting out of that Outlaw??? It sounds outstanding in your hands!
