Bridge question, please help?
Hey guys,
I have an old no name brand classical guitar that I got given to me and I'm doing up as a project guitar, I need to put my order in for the bridge tomorrow at the local music store. The guitar has holes obviously where the last bridge was screwed in, what type of bridge should I get? The guy at the music shop says I can get either - Eagle, Classic, Glue on, Flat top, Rosewood (Matt or Gloss) which are 18cm (L) x 2.9cm (W) x 1cm (H). Because there are original holes would a glue on be better? Do glue ons actually work well? What are the differences with the other bridges? And just basically which one do you recommend? Thank you! |

Hi moff,
For a classical guitar I'd suggest you get a classical guitar bridge, something that looks like these, http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,...l?renamed=true or from LMI the top bridge in the picture, http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdpro...e+Wood+Bridges . It will need to be glued down and clamped. That is the normal way bridges are attached. I'd use hot hide glue as my first choice or LMI white glue, http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdpro...nt+makers+glue . Some folks use Titebond Original but I've never used it for instruments. What ever glue you use you'll want to make sure you've cleaned and prepared the surfaces. The glues won't bond well to finish or old glue. Hot hide glue has a very short clamping time so unless you've worked with it before one of the other glues may be more forgiving. Regards, Ed |
