Default Changing Tuner Buttons

I have a gutiar with Waverly tuners but I do not like the ivoroid buttons. They are the ones that do not have the screw on the end. How are the buttons attached and it is there a way to replace only the buttons without having to get all new tuners?

James

I have the metal knobbed Waverlys on my Taylors. I don't think the knobs are interchangeable.

Call up Stew-Mac (www.stew-mac.com), they own Waverly and could give you a definitive answer.

The word is that they can not be changed. A shame since changing out the enitire tuners increases the cost by many times. Not much you can do with Ivroid as it can't be restained like wood or replated like metal.

Did you check Stewart MacDonald's? they sell replacement plastic buttons which are usually swapped out by heating the shaft of the tuner. Most often the replacement is done because some vintage celluloid tuner buttons shrink and disintegrate so getting the old ones off usually isn't the issue. I'd still worry about trying to remove perfectly good tuner buttons just for the look. Better option maybe to buy the set you like and flip the originals on ebay.
