Where would you recommend to look for songs to play for a beginner level player?

I would look at Justinguitar.com and google search Marty Schwartz guitar lessons. Lots of freebies

There are likely several good books but the one I am most familiar with is by Frederick Node:

Some additional background would be very helpful in determining what would be best useful.
