Default Neck profile?

I have a short scale OM42 with German/Madagascar with a soft v profile and a deluxe I 35 with a rounded C profile. Is this Collings a C profile? Btw this is a beautiful instrument. I am amazed it has not sold yet.

As far as the neck profile, it is a typical SJ neck carve, much bigger or fuller feeling than an OM. C shaped and gives one's thumb plenty of leverage or chunk to hold on to when chording.

Kenny — I'm trying to get a handle on the neck, since I have had zero opportunity to try out an SJ. On the Collings chart I am seeing depth at frets 1 and 9 as being 0.84" and 0.93 respectively. Does that sound correct to you? Also, how would you compare the neck to the Vintage neck found on the Traditional OM? It looks more shallow than the T model, but CJs that I tried felt considerably beefier. Wondering if SJ is similar.

THX.

Zaam, Here is what I have on file:

I have been keeping data on my neck profiles for the last 2 years. Bought a nice digital calipers on Amazon and started taking measurements of the neck width and depth at regular fret intervals.

The SJ I have for sale here

Nut Width from Factory: 1 11/16”
Measured Nut Width: 1.67"
Width at 1st Fret: 1.71
Depth at 1st Fret: .87
Width at 5th Fret: 1.88"
Depth at 5th Fret: .9
Width at 9th Fret: 2.01
Depth at 9th Fret: .95
Width at 12th Fret: 2.10"
Depth at 12th Fret: 1.03"

My 2007 Collings OM2HG

Nut Width from Factory: 1 3/4”
Measured Nut Width: 1.75"
Width at 1st Fret: 1.79
Depth at 1st Fret: .85
Width at 5th Fret: 1.93"
Depth at 5th Fret: .92
Width at 9th Fret: 2.05
Depth at 9th Fret: .94
Width at 12th Fret: 2.14"
Depth at 12th Fret: 1.03"

"Also, how would you compare the neck to the Vintage neck found on the Traditional OM?"

I did have a 2019 Collings OM2H Traditional for awhile but sold it because it was too close sounding to my OM2HG.... or I don't even know why I sold it... was a great guitar. That neck felt very similar to the OM2HG. Also owned a 1996 OM2HABaaa which was a great guitar that I had for about a year. That neck was very round and fat compared to the traditional necks I've played (both having 1 3/4" nut width). But that could have been an exception to the rule, perhaps a custom order with a fatter neck profile.

I've had a bunch of Collings guitars in my life. They are all great guitars and would take any one of them back in a heartbeat.

This is a very good guitar! Surprised that there is not a buyer yet. Only thing missing is the warrantee you get when buying new... but the price is right IMO.

SJs and c100s are not as easy to move as OMs. I have one of each. I was considering selling my SJ earlier in the year, but decided against it. Still, there was scarcely any interest in it. not sure why, but it is what it is. Your guitar is stunning, though I am not in the market for another jumbo-ish guitar. Hang in there, you will eventually move it!

Agreed. I've had quite a few OMs in my time but have settled with just one Collings OM2G and I'm quite happy with that. However, SJ IMO are a step above an OM in terms of depth of sound. It's like you get more of everything you love in a guitar, the only drawback might be the size (too big) for some people and I understand that.

It sort of baffles me that a model as versatile as the SJ doesn't get more attention. I suppose some of it is just lack of familiarity, and the possibility that most players of larger guitars automatically think dreads. Even trying an SJ out is difficult in most markets. I can't seem to find one to try out anywhere nearby. I absolutely love the articulation and depth of my Collings OM and the thought of a deeper, richer version is darned appealing.

Well Kenny, you know how I feel about your guitar. Your pics have been in an open browser tab on my laptop for some time now. It looks fantastic.
