Jon/Brick
I have a GS mini that has the ES system. Yes I will get a pickup installed in my main guitar eventually.
This if for a jam club I've put together, and some (most) of the members don't have pickups. Hence the need to mic.
The amp I get will eventually be used as a monitor, assuming I go forward into the dark night of regularly playing out or with an ensemble and get a "real" system.
And what's a HI Z switch???
Thanks for all the input. I think I'll just stick with the AS 40 I bought.

Two XLR inputs, 25 pounds, looks monitor-ish, got a smoking deal on one. My local used gear store has a Marshall AS50R that got good reviews, so if he'll sell it to me cheaply enough...I'll have one of each.

Balanced or unbalanced?

Well, I think I'm balanced, but many people have told me I'm quite unbalanced.

I’m a bit confused now. The amp you already have (as40) has combo inputs and both channels will accept either Tele or xlr. So no problem.

On the other hand the Marshall you mention only has one balanced input, input one is optimised for an instrument.

What are we missing?

You are missing nothing. The Marshall has some features I like better then then AC40. It is a question of what could I do to make the Marshall work with a mic. The answer is the converter thingy I was pointed to.
Thanks for all the replies.
