There is truth to this statement. I have had gear that was so bad sounding you had to do so much to the signal with EQ and effects to get it to sound less bad. I have also had the best of the best that took so much effort and time to dial it in well. I have also lately had some of the recent newer products that had great merit to get me a natural sound but needed extreme EQ to get it just right. Now, Dazzos get me very close to begin with that the minimal EQ in the Sunnaudio easily gets me where I want to go. My goal has never been “my guitar only louder”, I think that ultimately is problematic in live environments, I have strived for “my guitar on steroids” and to do it with minimal fuss and gear. This combo gets me pretty much there more than anything else I tried. There is no claim it works for everyone. I bet Teddy wouldn’t mind a phone call from you to talk about what’s not working for you. He has learned a lot in 6 years.

Sure. The 70s in my Martin sound really nice, tho. Are you sure it's different? When we installed the martin ones, we used the "pointy end between the bridge pins approach". I think that was a new location for you when we did it, you've changed again? I recall someone here saying you've changed, but what they described was exactly what we did in mine, as best I can tell.

I'm heading out of town for the week, let's catch up when I get back.

Hi Marc, I looked at your website. Do you have any real photo's of the stage DI or did I miss that? I just saw diagrams.

Can the Stage DI operate from Pedalower supplies like the Voodoo Labs 4x4 or others (high current supplies delivering up to 400ma) Or does it only run on a 9V battery or phantom power? I didn't check to see what current requirements were or whether it has a DC Power jack?

Sure. I would be up for that. I believe I indicated that to you in recent email exchanges. I was under the impression you weren't very interested.

Hi Groberts,

The Stage DI can be ordered with a custom AC plug thats
between 9-12v, 50ma DC.

We are working on a photo shoot for the DI's and will have photos soon! Here are some iPhone pics on here so everyone can see them.

Marc

I do a fair amount of recording at home, much of it to document new songs so I don't forget them. My setup was a Shure 81 on the guitar and a Rode NT2 for vocals.

Since I've had my Stage DI, I prefer it to the Shure. The bleed into the vocal mic gives me enough mic tone, and the Stage DI provides clarity and a really nice low end. The Dazzos are very much a part of the equation.

If you want to real world test SunnAudio product, the open mic at Cameron's in Half Moon Bay is using a custom Blender DI SunnAudio made just for our particular application. Same great sound. We run just about everything through it.

Check out Auri's open mic. Thursday nights. If you PM me you'll be there I can throw my Stage DI in my guitar case, but the Blender DI will tell you what you want to know. We're premiering our new QSC mains this week.

Hi Varmonter,
Our standard impedance is 5meg, but can be ordered with custom values.
So far we have had success with the K&K's, b-band, fishman ust's.
The mags sound very nice through the DI, although depending on which mag pickup, we would need to set the impedance on some.

Marc

I'm not surprised you hear differences between different preamps - different circuits and all that. I t's pretty difficult to do a comparison like this, it must have been a lot of work!. For example, a 0.1 db increase in volume will usually bias one to think the louder signal is "better" (clearer, more upfront, etc), and every preamp will have different gain structure, which makes them pretty tricky to compare. I always have the problem that unit A sounds best to me on Monday and unit B sounds better on Tuesday! In any case, it sounds like these new preamps easily hang in there with lots of well-regarded products, so that's great to hear. We need more options!
I can’t say that I was conducting a scientific experiment but I am aware of changes in volume, temperature and ears can effect my impressions drastically. That’s why I left and came back to it almost daily for nearly two weeks one to two times a day in cool mornings and evenings as well as hot afternoons. Teddy had suggested to me what I thought many years ago that piezo might be effected by the changes in temperature and perhaps even humidity too. I think that an acoustic guitar is too and those changes are heard in the plugged in sound. All variables that most likely don’t matter in the real world.
