GC daily pick:USA Martin Custom D $999
This just seems like a lot of guitar (and hard case) for the money.

I agree. I wonder what the nut and saddle are made out of.

Hmmm.. USA made - all solid wood Martin for $999 with a hard case. Anyone care to chime in with a review? |

If it wasn't for the fact that me and full size dreadnoughts don't speak the same language because of the weight and bulkiness(my biggest guitar is the Epiphone masterbilt Olympic reissue from a couple years ago and maybe my dreadnought jrs) I would so get this. This seems like a lot of bang for your buck here. If anyone has this, please post a review and or a video of it action so we can see and read about it

This is a great sounding guitar. I owned one of these a few years ago and have always regretted selling it. I actually ordered another one from M. Friend last Friday and I will get it today. I did get it for 1200 bucks, but I sure wish I would have seen this sooner. They had discontinued this guitar because of the virus I think. At one time this guitar had over 300, 5 star reviews at M. Friend. It deserved every one of them. To be honest this guitar is worth far more than their regular asking price. I actually like this guitar better than some of their standard series guitars at 3 times the cost. I have to admit I don't understand how Martin can sell a 2500 guitar and give you a gig bag with it and then sell you a 1000 Martin made right here in the US and give you a hard shell case with it. I sure wish I would have seen this yesterday. But anyway mine is arriving today sometime and it will definitely stay this time. I didnt even know guitar center had a pick of the day. I will be keeping an eye on those for sure. It has a satin finish, and the nut is 1" 11/16. Sorry I didnt see this sooner guys, I would have told you that the price for this guitar is a steal.

Hmm... in the description (second paragraph) it says it has a simple dovetail neck joint, but under "Features" it says it has a mortise and tenon neck joint.... which one is it?
Makes quite a difference for the value proposition on this IMO. |

I had the rosewood version of this guitar for a while and it is a heck of a bargain at this price. It's basically a 15 series guitar with a spruce top, the bracing, neck joint, etc., etc., are all 15 series.

BAw3, if you ordered this two days before it became the stupid deal of the day I would seriously try to either get a $200 refund or at least store credit.

These guitars are basically a Martin 15 series with a sitka top instead of Mahogany. They come with the A frame bracing. I noticed that they say what you said in the description also. It cant be both obviously. I dont really care what the neck joint is. All I care about is how the guitar sounds. This guitar is worth well more than the asking price. If you dont think so, than dont buy one.

My bad. I was thinking it was the MF SDOTD. Forgot it was GC. They probably won’t be able to do anything. Same parent company so worth a shot I guess.

A couple of years ago I played a Custom D at guitar center.
I remember thinking what a nice guitar for the price. I already had 2 Martin Dreds, so buying another wasn't in the plans. But, it was a nice guitar. |

When I had a neck reset on my D-15 the luthier showed me that it was a mortise and tenon not a dovetail. Since it slides into place like a dovetail I think Martin stretches a little and call it a “simple dovetail”. Sort of like the Formica on the x series is called HPL. All that said...the luthier prefers regular dovetail, but did not down the D-15, which he got
It playing and sounding great. And I have heard some great Music on x series guitars, and I like my daughters OOOXM. |

Martin uses three neck joints and they don't make things up about any of them.
The Traditional Dovetail is the tapered dovetail and it's on everything Standard Series and above. The Simple Dovetail is a straight dovetail, it on the 17 an lower, including a lot of the GC lower priced specials. The Mortice and Tenon is used on the Mexican made guitars now, but it was used on the 16 and 15 series and other lower level guitars in the past. HPL is not Formica. It's more like laminate flooring or melamine shelving. |
