Ben, hi again. No, it doesn't have anything to do any particular guitar or instrument.

Thanks,

Oh, you guys know this. From the last verse of the song they co-wrote...”but before I could get to the station in my pick-up truck...”

Goodman introduced Prine to Kristofferson and Anka in May 1971 at Old Town in Chicago, and that started Prine's career.

No, sorry, that was already mentioned, above.

SUGGEST ALL PLAYERS READ ENTIRE THREAD BEFORE GUESSING. That way you don't waste a turn.

Nope, nothing to do with that hilarious and wonderful song.

Steve, this is not a guess, but your praise of Steve Goodman really touched home. Unlike you, I never had the pleasure of seeing him live, and only knew of him as that guy David Allen Coe told us “wrote the perfect country and western song...” for so many years.

I was strummin’ and hummin’ City of New Orleans recently when my Dad reminded me of one night when I was 4, we were returning home in Chicago and got detoured through Kankakee and stuck at a RR crossing as a passenger train rolled by very slowly, and I remember watching the passengers go by. Now, half a century later I like to tell myself *maybe* I did actually see Steve Goodman. As he penned that song while riding on that train. But alas, graveyards full of old black men are much more poetic than a car with a white little boy waving!

Sorry for the intrusion, and I have no guesses at the moment.

Ben, yikes, sorry if I missed that. No, this has nothing to do with any kind physical object, including nothing to do with any musical instruments.

Beautiful memory, David. Have you heard Steve's sardonic song "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request?" If not, let me know and I'll post it.

Steve was maybe the most rabid Cub fan on earth. Ironically, Steve dies in September of 1984. About two weeks later the Cubs clinched the National League Pennant for the first time since WW2.

And one last piece of Goodman trivia. If I remember the story correctly, Steve's brother knew a groundskeeper or someone at Wrigley Field. He snuck them in and they spread Steve's ashes at home plate and I think a few other places.

Yes, I have seen it, along with every video of him on youtube That I can find! The couple of live versions of him playing City of New Orleans, to me, are some of the best solo vids ever. He was a HIGHLY underrated guitar picker! I really wonder what music we are missing, having lost him far, far too soon.

This is my favorite all-time Goodman clip. Let me know if you've seen this one. I was lucky to see Steve at least four times that I can recall. This clip is the closest thing I've ever seen to seeing Steve perform in the flesh.

So, to recap:

It's related to Steve Goodman
It's not an object or song or a musical instrument
It's not a character in a song
Not Bruised Orange (Goodman produced)
We've eliminated the OTSFM and the bar where JP started his career
Hmmmm

Is it a place?
