As a kid, we would sometimes go down to the Detroit River and watch the fireworks over on the Windsor side. Later I moved away from the UP of Michigan after college -- graduated in 83 -- so I missed the official change to Canada Day. Having lived within a few miles of our common border for much of my life, I've always thought fondly of our neighbors to the southeast (from an Alaskan perspective)

I have purposefully not been a paying much attention to the news these days, so I cannot answer about the "official" city fireworks displays. But we live in a semi-secluded neighborhood where some people blow up a lot of cash is illegal fireworks. (In Idaho they are legal to buy, but not to actually use. Go figure). Our street sounded like a war zone for hours last night and left plenty of debris in the street this morning. The cats are glad it is over though....they cowered in fear under the bed most of the night. And I'm not especially fond of loud noises either these days.

Apparently there was a run on fireworks this weekend; there was a larger amount of "private" fireworks shows throughout our area. It was nice to be able to sit on my front porch of my hilltop home and watch a good dozen or so from varying distances. Fortunately, things wrapped up around 10pm.
