Default Drove my first EV tonight...

A good friend bought a Chevy Bolt Premier today and we took it for a ride - what a cool car, like driving a computer with wheels! Very modern designed interior and pretty cool exterior as well. Built very solid. Really enjoyed the experience!

My oldest son has one, and I get to drive it when visiting. It’s very responsive, fun to drive, with all kinds of safety features.

He put it in sport mode and told me to step on it - it definitely jumped (and very quietly)

There's two brand new ones for <$25k at my local dealership. Which is impressive considering they no longer qualify for the federal tax credit.

The Bolt isn't what I'd call a subcompact - and it was 30k. Plenty of room, power and panache.....The price of the home power supply is down to 700 here (and there's a tax credit and deal you can work out with the local utility company)

The lack of a large combustion engine and it's components increases the available room in a big way.

The range on his is about 220 miles in warm weather. Not too bad.

EVs are definitely cool, but I'm waiting to get a Tesla. It's great all companies are getting involved and Tesla even wants this (they just wanted to start to EV revolution), but Tesla's tech is so far ahead of everyone now.

Cool though.

It’s listed as a subcompact, maybe erroneously?

It's certainly the future! I have a friend who owns a Volt. A few years older for sure. She had some complaints about the heater, something about it not working off the heat of the engine (obviously) but I can't recall the specifics. She was kind of lukewarm about it, but again a few years old.

They'll keep getting better, cheaper, and more practical. She loved the cost of ownership for sure.

I think Volts are great. I’ve heard good things about other EV’s, , including the Bolt, and am looking forward to the release of the VW ID4 in the US.

I agree with Robj....Tesla technology and their charging network is miles ahead of everyone else. I would love to own one, but don’t know when that might seem prudent.

Love driving an EV. When I worked for an electric utility, we had an EV pilot program. I was able to take an EV RAV4 for a week. It was really nice. Big influence on our getting a hybrid. Hoping the current cars last another couple of years, but see ourselves with a hybrid and an EV as our 2 cars in the not too distance.

A computer with wheels ... hopefully you won't be the one who finds the "defect of the week". .

What a cool looking car. How long do you think before we reach a point where 50% of all cars sold in the US/Canada are electric? 10 years?

Be careful if you carry passengers prone to car sickness...

My son in law owns a Tesla Model S and no one can ride in it without getting sick (except the driver, of course). The problem is the regenerative braking that can get the fluid in your inner ear flowing and making you dizzy and sick.

Tesla now offers a new program that lessens the regenerative braking. It helps, but it also significantly lowers the car's driving range.

Lots is written about the subject if you Google it.

Never heard of this. I know about 3 people with an S and no one has said anything. I googled and didn't find much with regeneration:

I found a few links related to acceleration though:

Here's a forum thread:

That is interesting about the car sickness. Wonder if it is significantly different than in a hybrid. Thanks for raising that. Will do some research.
