I really admire his technique.

I guess I have two reservations:

1. It's interesting for around 20 seconds, and then incredibly not.
2. It produces one of the poorest tones I've heard from a guitar.

Ah, Mr Gomm - one of the most talented guys around, who I see live whenever I can. He's the complete package - a writer of some quite beautiful songs who can do soft fingerpicking, screaming metal leads (on a Lowden, no less!), all the tapping stuff and then detunes for good measure mid song, thanks to the banjo tuners he's modified his guitar with. Also, he's a really lovely bloke.

As for the OP's video, that didn't do much for me due to the limitations of the guitar he was using, but if he was playing on a modern jumbo with additional pickups, it would sound amazing.

Im the president of the no tapping club. Technique is not music, nor is entertainment. Its like those ugly black and white paintings that are expertly drafted of skulls and hell etc but lack beauty. I really like post impressionism but the cubists leave me cold.

These musicians that do the "tap" thing are really talented, but I never liked too much of it. One or two well placed taps per tune is all I can deal with.

I'm the same way with artificial harmonics as well.

+1TBman. Music should be musical. I dont even have my right hand at the same spot all the time but too much over the fretboard or at the bridge goes beyond accent to irritation.

If you're going to do all that tapping, you might as well play a Chapman Stick.

I think this guy is the undisputed king...

I saw Stanley Jordan in the early 80's. The first hour I was enthralled and inspired. The last hour I was annoyed and deflated.

I only like it underutilized....like Jeff Beck.

Nowadays too many people watch too much and listen too little.
Music used to be a listening experience (mostly).
Still is for me.
Close your eyes on any of those vids and just listen to the music.
Do you like what you hear?
