I'd say that's a Zoom Q8's territory. They show up used at very affordable prices. I'd say that the video capability is inferior to the latest iphones, but the audio is better and there's 2 inputs as well as the attached stereo pair (which you can swap out for other Zoom mics).

Super-easy to use.

I just bought one of these to make videos with my phone, but for the same money about you can get a Zoom H5 (audio recorder).

There is something cool about not having to deal with the extra audio file and synching the tracks though, not to mention the simplicity of the setup, with everything fitting on a single tripod.

As it turns out, the H5 (or H6 or F6, probably F3, maybe other Zooms) can be used as an iPhone mic or audio interface. Do a little Googling for the info.

This is done on a Zoom Q8, no editing at all. There's some hiss, which is annoying I guess. But literally, point, press the red button, go, then export. The only way it's less convenient than an iPhone is that it doesn't have airdrop.

Thanks everyone for all the input!

I think I’m going to start by checking out some of the still-simple options, that may not require editing like video and audio sync.

It will be interesting to compare the results. Hoping to dig in this weekend on researching some of the options suggested.
