In fact, my Eastman mandolin has a shroud in its case.

Yeah, that’s me……chock full of worthless trivia!

Ah, interesting... shroud. That's a good name for that extra piece of cloth.

Will you stop that? I’m gonna get in so much trouble….
Seriously, that’s one of the prettiest guitars I’ve ever seen. Just right.

Doug, Beautiful!!! Congrats on the Les Paul.

I just got a new case for one of my LPs.

The lids are different now. Not as deep.

The case won't accommodate the Les Paul Standard with a Bigsby.

The other Les Paul Standard I have, with no bigsby, the case fits except I have to force the lid down to latch it.

Does your case with this new Paul, close that way to?
I have a few Les Paul cases but nothing with a Bigsby. I've read over the past year that Gibson cases (at least the Les Paul and SG) are made in Canada, China, and Costa Rica. They must have the same dimensions although I've read that some countries use different latches.

There should be a label inside the case - where was yours made?
Doug, where was your case made?

Mine is from Costa Rica

They are not as deep as the older cases with the shroud. The guitar sits higher in the new case than the previous.

The lid is a bit shallower too, or perhaps, just more padcing.

The old cases, the lid would shut on their own, the new cases there's like a 1/2" of space.

So they are definitely not the same dimensions as the cases for my 2002 and 1995 Standards but probably all the same with what this new one is.

it's a nice case, just wasn't the way I planned it. I bought the case for the one w/the Bigsby. But it's all good the case that is in is good shape. the original 95 case is pretty much beat to snot.

Both my SG and LP cases are Canadian TKLs.

Doug

didn't mean to hijack the thread with Case stuff

so lets go back to the axe.

How are you liking the classic 57s pickups?

I am scheming that one of my last, parting endeavors as I head to retirement next year, is to pick up a 3rd Lp Standard, and the 50s Standard is just what I was considering. Mostly, due to the pickups, I really like the C57s.
Once I cut the ties from full time work, It won't really be an easy task to scoop up another Paul. so it's getting to "now or never" time.

My other point of curiosity is the 50s neck profile How are you getting on with that?

my '02 standard has a 60's slim taper, my '95 standard a 59 round neck. My SG Standard has a pretty beefy 50s neck. More so than the '95 But I get on with them all just fine.

I know gibson necks are all over the place on even ones that have the "same" specs.

just getting some of your first impressions.

Hi Ray,

My new LP is actually a limited run built for Long & McQuade in Canada. https://www.long-mcquade.com/169424/...-Maple-Top.htm

Here are the specs:

• Body: Mahogany
• Top: AAA Maple
• Finish: Iced Tea burst
• Weight Relief: None
• Neck: Mahogany
• Neck Profile: Vintage 50s
• Nut width: 1.695" / 43.05mm
• Fingerboard Rosewood
• Scale length: 24.75" / 628.65mm
• Number of frets: 22
• Nut: Graph Tech
• Inlay: Acrylic Trapezoids
• Bridge: ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic
• Tailpiece: Aluminum Stop Bar
• Knobs: Amber Top Hats w/ Pointers
• Plating: Nickel
• Neck pickup: Burstbucker 1
• Bridge pickup: Burstbucker 2
• Controls: 2 Volumes, 2 Tones & Toggle Switch (Hand-wired with Orange Drop Capacitors)
• Case: Gibson Hard Shell

I do like the neck (full but not too big) and pickups (somewhat darker and smoother than the Burstbucker 61s in my SG). Been a long time since I owned a guitar with 57s!

ah! I see

there are some models that are similar at Sweetwater, they have their own exclusive package, I wonder what the +$100 is for? LOL!

the 61s come with the 60s LPs, so I was leaning toward to 50s with the C57s
I like those lots.

I did A/B mine with the 60s model. I found the 60s too close to my '61 SG.

that would make sense as I think they are the same pickups

the SG to my ears is usually a little just a bit darker than a Paul with the same pickups

I bought a Les Paul Tribute last year, which I love. Seeing your beauty makes me wish I sprung for the real deal! Congrats!
