Default so my lyric fell off the bridge plate

It's hot and humid here in chicagoland, I managed to slack the strings and get my hand in there to stick back on...any advice on what to use to get it back up there little more permanently like when I change strings and the battery in a week or two?

Call Baggs, they will send you more tape.

OR, if your the impatient type like me, go to the hardware store, Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc. Double sided tape. Don’t get the spongy type, get the gummy type. You might have to buy 2-3 type before you find the right stuff. The stuff I found was clear. But it’s exactly what Baggs uses.

Of note, the tape for the volume is different, it’s the spongy type.

I believe the bridgeplate is unfinished wood.
Adhesive doesn't stick to unfinished wood as well as it sticks to sealed/finished wood.

Would (or, wood )it be harmful to apply a finish to only the small area of the bridgeplate where the Lyric's adhesive is?

Honestly I don’t think that should matter. I’d get some new tape and try again. If that doesn’t work, sure, apply a finish to it. Wouldn’t hurt but it isn’t easy.

Default so my lyric fell off the bridge plate

Lyrics are great pickups — my second fastest seller — but they can be fussy in some guitars for placement. LRBaggs supply a second set of 3M VHB pads with each unit, making it easy to relocate, or reattach.

IF the bridgeplate was cleaned before installation (often forgotten), the pressure-sensitive pads adhere really well and become quite firm after 2 days. It is important to clean the plate with naphtha or methyl hydrate, and let dry. No finish is necessary and they tolerate high humidity well

The VHB in fact is a thickish tape and I think it’s important to help eliminate harshness in the sound. Any LRBaggs installer will have spares — and if they did the original install, I’m sure they’ll reattach your Lyric no charge.

And there you have it. That’s why this forum is pretty cool.

BTW, pickups falling off can happen, it’s not a big deal, call Baggs and they will have it in the mail Monday. I have done it more than a couple of times.

I had extra tape in the box, so I just reinstalled mine after a bit of rubbing with a rag and a bit of windex on the bridge plate. Mine decided to drop into the guitar body during a quaint little cafe gathering - the resulting "Boom" made people duck.

Default Same old story

My Lyric pickup has fallen off again. Third time. Last night I found a can of polyurethane varnish and dipped my finger in it, then smeared it across the raw wood on the back of the bridgeplate to give the tape something to cling to rather than bare wood. I'm betting it works.

Just use putty instead of tape. Schatten sends both putty and tape with their pickups. The putty will stick to anything while also being easy to remove...amazing stuff.

Varnished or not, with fine sandpaper*, lightly and evenly sand your bridgeplate in the area where the Lyric will be installed. Then, very importantly, clean the area twice with rubbing alcohol on a clean cotton cloth, and let dry for 20 to 30 minutes before affixing your Lyric to the bridgeplate. This should keep your Lyric in place for a long time.

*You can wrap a piece of the sandpaper around a 9-volt battery (it makes a good flat sanding block) and grip it tightly or better yet, get some sticky-back sandpaper, cut it to the appropriate size, and attach it to the 9-volt battery surface and lightly sand.

I’m a dealer/service point for both LRBaggs and Schatten. The only installation I’ve had fail was a Lyric installed on my own 12-string. Now-a-days, I always clean the bridge plate with naphtha before installing, but can’t say if I did that 4 years ago on this 12-string, which was one of my first installs. In any event, it wasn’t the bond with the wood that failed, but rather the adhesive layer bond to the foam tape. The adhesive itself remained firmly stuck to the wood — so much so that I left it there and simply rejuvenated it with some naphtha when I reinstalled.

Sounds like the start of a country song. Sorry I couldn't resist.
