Paul Brett 12 string - string pressure

It was set up with Elixir 10 - 47 strings. It sounds good as a 12 string, but the neck is too narrow at the nut. It plays very well with 6 strings, the neck width is perfect, though the 1st string is a little too close to the edge of the neck.

I was wondering if the guitar would be ok as a 6 string with -

• a new nut, to move the 1st string slightly further back,

• Elixir 12 - 53 strings
