Default 80s music on acoustic

Hi,

Eighties pop music on acoustic is particularly entertaining to me. Everyone my age is familiar with it and any singing along to mask my fumbling as I learn to play it better is appreciated.

What are your favorites from late 70s or 80s that translate well for you on acoustic? some that I love are below. look forward to more suggestions. the cheesier the better

Africa by Toto
Down Under by Men at Work
Take on Me by Aha
Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond

I love Sturgill Simpson's version of "The Promise."

If you don't know this song, wait for the chorus.

Good question

You can do a lot with Pretty in Pink. Lots of fun REM tunes—Wendle Gee, (don’t go back to) Rockville, etc. Colin Hey has a great lesson on line for “Overkill” which I think is an amazing Men at Work song. I could go on....

Not a huge fan of 80's pop but I do an instrumental version of Through the Barricades by Spandau Ballet that people seem to enjoy.

PM Dawn did an awesome acoustic version of 1999 by Prince. It's only about 1:30 long before it goes into other songs, but it's awesome.

The Breakup Song by the Greg Kihn band translates well to acoustic. It's in my open mic repertoire.

I'd go with R.E.M. Also, lots of peter Gabriel from the 80s and you can probably find some good Cure tunes to play.

Almost anything from REM - great guitar stuff
Under the Milky Way - The Church
Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams
She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult
Friday I'm in Love - The Cure

I also like a lot of 90's stuff.

- Cyndi Lauper - True Colors, if you can pull of the vocal.

- The Cure - Just Like Heaven

- Pretty much anything by Crowded House. There are loads of videos on youtube of Neil Finn doing solo acoustic arrangements to study from.

- There are some Aztec Camera songs I like to play, but they might be a little obscure if you're going for recognizable pop hits.

- Violent Femmes, Blister in the Sun (not technically pop, but it's an '80s song that a lot of people of a certain age recognize and respond to).

Ulli Boegershausen does some really great 80s/90s covers and has the tab to go along with it. Worth checking out YouTube and http://www.boegershausen.de

A great song is a great song, and will stand up to the test of being played acoustically and solo. Many good tunes are buried in heavy production values.

I enjoy finding pop/rock stuff that makes a good and unexpected cover. My most recent add is The Pixies - Where is my Mind.
