Default Things you appreciate more as you get older...

The light on my cordless drill. I can actually see the screws I'm removing,

I think this a freedom all to itself. We focus too much on making others, like us, approve of us, etc. Breaking free of that and living our lives for ourselves is liberating! I used to believe that going that extra mile at work would take you places and then I realized that someone else is gonna do less riding your coat tails and 9 times out of 10, the powers that be never recognize what you’ve done!

I’m only 30, but I’ve noticed this at work in the last few years. I guess since I’ve always been a big guy, I have this crazy fear of somebody thinking I’m lazy. Because of this, I go out of my way to do extra tasks, pickup others slack, and be that person my superiors can count on to get things done. I’m in a salaried position so I don’t get paid extra. All this has earned me is to get asked to do extra things because they know they can count on me and I won’t say no. I don’t get paid extra and I don’t think this will get any further a long as my career isn’t one with many promotions. This year I think I’m going to start saying to no to a lot of this extra stuff I get asked to do.

A loving wife
A fire in the fireplace
Hugs from my dogs
Silence
A good roof
