I played one on Saturday and it has a surprisingly big sound.
Not boomy or overly bright.

The new neck radius is excellent.

I played the 635W afterwards and was totally surprised.
New neck profile with walnut. Very nice.

I played one at GC a while back and liked it a lot. It was an incredibly comfortable little guitar and had a nice, balanced sound, bigger than I expected from such a little body. I loved the neck profile.

FWIW, it's the same guitar Gibson was selling as the HP 665 a couple of years ago.

I’d really like to check one out, but haven’t found one yet. I figure it’d be fine for fingerpicking, but I’m wondering if it would be a good enough strummer to replace a J45 for casual play.

If you’re looking for a small Gibson that can handle strumming, I’d definitely give the LG2AE a look. Great little strummer that sounds like a smaller slope dread.

I wonder how this new Gibson model compares to the older CJ165. I have a friend that used to have one of those that was a great sounding little Gibson. It was a pretty decent strummer and really sounded good fingerpicked and for blues.

Thanks for the suggestion, Russ. I’ll check that out, too.

You’re welcome, I’ve had this little guy for about 2 months and have been so impressed with it. As a dread guy I don’t always like smaller guitars. I just don’t think you can find a better value in the $1000-$1200 price range you can find these priced at used.

As for the guitar in the OP the body really reminds me of these older cj165’s.

upload photos online

The CJ165 came in maple and rosewood and were great little guitars. The one I played several times was the rosewood version: it obviously has more bling than the AG rosewood or HP 665, but if it’s built and sounds similar, I’d think that it would be a really nice little Gibson. It may feel a little bit different as the fretboard radius looks to be changed on the new model.
