I CAN HEAR MUSIC.
Love Carl's lead vocals and the pure harmonies. As for The Beach Boys... they are my all-time fav band! |

Quote:
I would offer that you're generalizing too much about the Beatles recordings. Not all of it suffered by comparison. Point two is the fact that they were simply better musicians and the BB's members couldn't play the stuff in the studio so they had "hired guns" do it. Personally when I learned that, I was enormously disappointed. The Beach Boys were garage band musicians and their instrument playing had no influence on anyone. You certainly can't say that about any of the Beatles. I don't know what you are referring to about the drums and bass. There are a great number of songs the Beatles recorded where the drums and bass were very well recorded and the musicianship was superb even in the early years. Or are you saying Carol Kaye is a better bass player than Paul McCartney? Ringo did stuff on drums studio guys never dreamed of and was very unique and important to the Beatles "sound". I guess we just disagree on some of your points but I do love The Beach Boys. On that, we agree. Oh and if I have to choose, my favorite Beach Boys song is... God Only Knows

Anything on Pet Sounds. Although it was Brian Wilson and the Wrecking Crew, and not the regular Beach Boys members, it's brilliant - because his writing was brilliant.

Drive from Ontario to Indiana today and listened to the Beach Boys channel on XM the entire way. They are all great except maybe Cotton Fields, Sloop John B, and Kokomo.

Good Vibrations, because it was new and different, and better than the contemporary British invasion music.
edit: I remember hearing this on AM radio when it was new, any body else?

Gosh, there is no way I can choose a favorite Beach Boys song, or a favorite Beatles song, or a favorite Leo Kottke song, or favorite compositions from Michael Hedges, Bach, Mozart or Gershwin.
My "favorite" is the deep variety of wonderful music we all have available to enjoy. |

Fun, Fun, Fun
The lyrics and the story of a teenager blowing off studying at the library cruising in her convertible- "Til her daddy takes her T-bird away." This was my first concert, 1985 Boy Scout National Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill, Virginia. |

Not an easy question to answer, much of this decision depends on my mood that day, but generally Sloop John B

God Only Knows
Carl's voice was amazing and man, you just can't top those harmonies. Great melody. I can listen to it a hundred times in a row.
