I was thinking that possibly the "Ab 6(superscript) 2(subscript)" notation might have referred to a 2 for the bass, as in Ab6/Bb (Ab6 chord, Bb bass). Though going by the piano voicings it doesn't seem that's correct... Just thought I'd mention it to give that a try. 815C gives some good, practical voicings. The real issue is what the heck is WITH these weird chord notations I keep reading about here??!!?? aargh. Not to mention ::flat keys:: but I try to remind myself that's just my problem (as he reaches for his Shubb capo...) Last edited by beach bob; 11-05-2004 at 12:59 PM. Reason: wordsmithing ... |

Thanks to all for your help, especially 815C and Beach Bob. We tried a number of voicings this morning and decided that the notation meant Ab with only a 2nd and 6th, and an Ebsus with an added 2nd. I couldn't get my fingers to move fast enough in this key so with the magic Shubb Capo it worked out fine. BTW, the name of this pretty song is "Thank You, Lord!", in case it every comes up for anyone else.

I didn't think I was on the right track with that funky inversion notation.....
no good ever comes of humans thinking too hard....
