Default Doesn't this look like more fun than a barrel of monkeys?

I'd love to know if there's anything like this in the US. It must be a tremendous coordination effort, but it looks like a gas!

Yes, it looks like fun. I guess the original recording is coming through the headphones.

We were having something similar in NYC before covid shut it down. It was called the NYC Urban Campfire and instead of going to to listen to the people playing, you brought an instrument and played along. It was great!

The shows were put on by Mark Stewart, Paul Simon's guitar player. Here I am playing along with Dion, John Sebastian, and Jimmy Vivino;

That was awesome. Loved seeing all those drum kits and kid/adults banging away singing their hearts out. Those Dutch speak (and sing) English better than we do.

What an incredibly fun way to see a show!
I'd like to see that concept gain traction and spread!
Thanks for sharing this!

Hmmmm, I've got relatives over there, maybe I should look into this.

It'd definitely be fun.

It was a great time and I know it was expanding. They had shows in Nashville and Philadelphia. I was thinking about making the trip to Nashville because they could have such a great lineup

I went to two shows before everything shut down. It sure beat the heck out of sitting there and maybe getting to clap along.

And I just have to say that even at well over 80, Dion is still the coolest person in any room he walks into! And a darn good acoustic blues guitar player! And of course we did ''The Wanderer''!

More information on the Urban Campfire communal music gatherings HERE.

I remember seeing a story about the concept and how they hoped to expand on CBS Sunday Morning a few years back. I thought the whole idea was so unique and interesting. Communal music was always a great participatory event and these folks are working to expand on that.

Check out Mark Stewart's explanation of Urban Campfires nine minutes in:

This tribute to David Bowie was performed in Italy in 2016, there are others on Youtube. Didn't see any acoustic guitars but it sure looks like fun.....

More good pics from the Urban Campfire in Greenwich Village here;

https://www.facebook.com/GuitarMash/...type=3&theater

The first one is of Taz Niederauer, who is one of the top young electric players in this country right now. He was part of the stage backup band. They were the kids group that the Guitar Mash organization sponsors and runs.

I was able to get to two of these and it was a lot of fun. If they are ever able to get going again, I'll ve sure to get back. I'd love to do the Nashville show and go guitar shopping while I'm there. In the first one they had, they had a great line-up.
