Default Getting setup ready to record my Sable

http://soundcloud.com/david-lane-16/...ecording-setup

I've written a song that I'd like to record, and I'm trying to get my Sable and a single mic setup to sound good and usable in a foundational sort of way. Here's the sound I'm getting so far.

Please feel free to comment.

Oops. My inexperience with Logic Pro (I've been using Reaper for ages) tripped me up. I exported when I should have bounced.

Here's the correct link...

David, Your playing sounds good but the EQ on the guitar is too treble-heavy. Can you adjust your guitar's EQ parameters and/or distance to the mic to give the guitar a more rounded and blended frequency tonality?

I'll play around with mic positioning some more. I want to lessen the need to "fix it in post".

I took your suggestion to heart, SpruceTop. Here's a very similar setup but after much more mic positioning experimentation...

Thanks, Dave, definitely an improvement but there's still a bit much treble content in the guitar tone. I hope others comment as they may hear things a bit differently. Looking forward to more!

It is a bit too "trebly." Where is the mic and what part of the guitar is it pointed at?

What strings are you using on your Sable? I am using Elixir light gauge and my Sable sounds very mellow and balanced compared to your recording. That isn't a bad thing because as I said before, you are getting a nice chime from yours.

I've tried it "in all the normal places". Right now it's about 14" out from the neck joint aimed at it, slightly below a perfect right angle from the soundboard, and about 4" toward the nut.

Here's a sample where I've reduced the top end using eq.

Just for kicks put the mic on the bridge side and point it at the bridge.

Here's one aimed at the bridge, about 14" out.

I think you're right. Thank you for the suggestion. I never would have tried it without a push. It just seems so... outside the box that I'd constructed.
