S. Kinnaird - Sinker Redwood/Madrose 00 for Daveac (Video added!)

I have a Sinker Redwood/Wenge FS that Steve and Ryan custom made for me maybe four or five years ago. The top turned out gorgeous esthetically, and the Wenge is very nice as well. I requested a dark sounding tone, (whatever that is!), and the tone is excellent and very unique. Soulful, kind of three dimensional complex notes, just perfect for the haunting kind of songs that I am drawn to learn and play. I have been lucky enough to play quite a few Brazilian Rosewood guitars and even luckier to have owned a few great ones myself. It has always sounded like Brazilian B/S's to me, which was our goal, and without the big upcharge and the CITIES worries. The first guitar that I have owned that I will never sell!

That wood is really special as is the Kinnaird shop both at building and at being good human beings!

Following along with some back work.

First is cutting the back to the 00 shape.




Then gluing the center seam reinforcement in.




Polishing up the redwood center seam reinforcement. It is an offcut from the top, so it will give a decent look into what the combination will look like.

It's very striking - I almost wish they could use it for the back strip on the outside as well, though I know that would be impractical. What binding have you picked out for this?

We have chosen ebony for the binding with white/black/white lines. The top will be trimmed in abalone but Steve and I both agreed to opt for no backstrip to detract from the figure of the wood. The fingerboard and headstock will also be bound in ebony with white/black/white lines.

Why not start your Monday off with some rosette building pictures? Hope you like it. Dave wanted something simple with a splash of blue from paua. We think it looks great.
