The only "lubricant" I'd use on a nut slot is a #2 pencil. And yes, I'd go for the 5/$1 pencil before the $5 tube of graphite lubricant. But, I'd only use it after the slots have been properly cut to the proper depth.

WD40 would kill the strings too... i don't think oil is such a good thing around guitars, (discounting lemon oil and linseed oil for fretboard conditioning)
Why not try teflon or a dry lube?

Don't you people know anything? WD-40 is for treating arthritis! {I've actually heard of people doing this!}

None of the nuts on any of my guitars need any kind of lubrication. I agree 100% with previous posts stating that your issue is more likely that of improperly filed nut slots than anything.

WD-40 works great for starting big diesels due to its content of some hyrdocarbon (I'm told kerosene). We used it all the time because it's atomized straight out of the can. It can lube slow moving parts, locks, gate assemblies but in the long run draws more grime to it because it is petrol related. I'd never get it near a guitar.

in a pinch when no nut sauce is available if used a tiny dab of vaseline petroleum jelly applied with a toothpick. Seems to work fine.
