I never knew this song... and I can see why you get such a great reception when you play it. So pretty, and just a great treat. Thanks man...

“religion debate”.... I wonder if playing this one at my public gigs (bars, clubs, restaurants) would be problematic. It’s become a very popular song. And many popular songs reference Jesus. I play Fire and Rain which does.. Doobies’ Jesus is Just Alright. The list goes on.

Opinions?

Maybe I'm wrong.
I Can Only Imagine is the most downloaded Christian single ever at over 2 million digital downloads and is the only Christian song to reach double platinum status.

In the mainstream pop world it reached #33 on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40. In the country world it reached #52 on Country Airplay.

So I'd say it's well accepted just about anywhere. Great song and well played and sung, Vance!

I can tell you from experience, it is we'll received and highly popular at every venue. Church, wineries, pubs. Its an amazing song that is far reaching. It probably gets more positive response than any song I do. Fear not, follow your heart!

Interpretation is subjective, so I would guess it covers many of the bases of emotion and interpretation. That is why music is considered art. What I have experienced with this song has been positive.

I only recently became aware of this song ("The Movie Session" version) when the movie about it came out. The story behind it, and the man, is fascinating. I can see why people like it so much, it's a touching, hopeful song. Nicely done.
