My Carbon Fiber
While I’m sorting out my Emerald acquisition, I can at least show what I have. I bought this Amicus in the secondary market about a month ago.
There are plenty of YouTube videos, so I won’t get into what it sounds like. Or, just imagine a 12 string capo’d at the 8th fret. I don’t tune it all the way up to D because it makes barre chords up the neck more difficult. Quite easy to play and all those songs I’ve been playing for the past 40 years have a fresh sound. LOL I’m pleased with it but I do think of it as a novelty instrument. I’ve no doubt someone with more skills than what I possess could do a lot more with it.

I think of my guitalele and mandolin as novelty instruments. I have considered switching my mandolin (US Ovation) to guitar fingering and then it would be like an amicus with a few strings missing.
Thanks for the pictures and guitar candy. I love that 12 string.

That 12 string is one of the nicest looking guitars I've ever seen. It really shows the beauty of wood.

The koa guitar is from 1998. It’s rare to see koa like that on guitars made nowadays.

I agree, I have seen some awesome Koa around that time frame. I have a 2001 hand built with some awesome as well.

It was around 2005 or so when the prices of koa seemed to spike, IIRC, while the aesthetic quality of sets went down hill a bit. It's also become harder to find high grade flamed and figured all-koa ukulele since, and their prices have also jumped markedly.
Several years ago I bought a used 2006 koa / spruce GS-K and a 2007 all-koa 424-LTD a couple of years later. I wanted to lock in my koa guitars before koa did what BRW was doing in terms of upcharge and availability. So far this has insulated my wallet from the considerably more expensive K24 and K26, no matter how awesome those models are -- and they really are! |

Very pretty, and worthy cousins to your twelve string!
The best I can do visually is my Big Island Honu tenor KT-TR: http://bigislandukulele.com/products...html#product03 |
